Last few weeks, I been invited by Ketchup to enjoy this Zentangle session at Tedboy Bakery Bangsar. The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. It was my first tempt attending drawing workshop.

Although I learn drawing while in my college, but it's been a while since I touch a pencil and quietly focus on drawing. I was quite worried that my drawing skill becomes worse.

We were glad to be able to join this Zentangle session at Tedboy. Nestled amidst the bustling street of Jalan Telawi 3 Bangsar, TedBoy Bakery offers a plethora of wholesome natural goodness pastries and dishes to tantalize your adventurous taste buds. TedBoy Bakery is born out of love, the love for fresh bread, good coffee and of course for the owner's son Ted.

We have Ivy, Zentangle Certified Teacher to guide and teach us throughout this Zentangle session.

What is Zentangle?

Zentangle Method is an easy to learn, fun and relaxing way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. It claims to have this Mental Yoga when we tangling. Anyone who can hold a pen can tangle! Since it was very easy to catch up you will be surprised at how simple you can produce an artwork!

Tools of the day.

We start drawing and tangling in this small square paper, Tiles from Zentangle. That's because you can arrange them in beautiful larger mosaics. Zentangle tiles use a mould-made, acid-free, 100% cotton, heavy-weight fine artists' archival printmaking paper with a beautiful vellum surface.

Besides the tiles, we also use Sakura® Pigma Micron 01 black pens to draw Zentangle patterns on our tiles. A soft pencil is ideal for drawing strings and for shading your tile.

I am not here as a parent for today event. But purely to learn the fun and relaxing Zentangle session for today workshop.

I love the way that Ivy teaches during the session. We have the live projector on her table that we can follow and learn how to tangling. Each of the patterns has their own names and styles. Once you start to learn the basics, you are good to freely use the patterns for any creative drawing.

My first try on Zentangle. Honestly, it was quite challenging for me as I am not a type of girl who would sit quietly for 1 hour just focus on drawing. It tested out my patient is not that good too, haha! But when you start to tangling in this tiles, you will feel your mind start to cool down and concentrate fully on the drawing with the 0.1 Pen that they provide.

It was a great bonding session with your kids too. Your kid can learn to draw and focus within that period of tangling. Able to enhance your kid's creativity too through tangling.

My final Tiles Artwork with Zentangle. I don't really want to add more colors, I find that Black and White can be a soothing and comfortable color too.

Can't wait to tangle the Tedboy Black Tiles from Zentangle too.

The bigger tiles are done tangling by all the kids, smaller tiles are done by parents. See how colorful the tangling of each artwork. I can't believe that we can sit at our place for 1 hour and focus on this tangling on this small tiles.

The idea behind this Parenting with Zentangle program is because TedBoy is centered around family-oriented arts & crafts. According to Patrina, the lady founder of TedBoy Bakery, this Cafรฉ is also a place that encourages and hopes to inspire the love for art and design among its community of loyal customers. Thanks to Ivy, the certified practitioner of Zentangle Art will showcase the Zentangle method of relaxing, easy-to-learn and fun way to create the beautiful images of drawing structured patterns.

Tedboy is proud to cultivate the specific art and craft family oriented activity.  This method of art and craft increases focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction, along with an increased sense of personal well-being especially among children.

‘We hope that the modern artistic approach of this Zentangle method of art & craft could not only hone the modern, as well as easy approach of abstract drawings among children, this new method of drawing, could also be an eye opener for parents to nurture and enhance their children’s artistic ability ’, added Patrina.

Once again thanks, Ketchup having me in this Zentangle session!

  2. I've never heard of the term tangling before but I believe painting these tiles is not something new. I would like to try my hand in it too but like you, I am not a patient person.
